He’s been a good boy!

My dad’s surgery went very well, taking about one hour this time. ONE HOUR! His other hip replacement done about 5 years ago took 4.5! Things have progressed. He’s doing well, they had him up and walking first thing this morning and plan on sending him home tomorrow after lunch. A physical therapist will come to their house three times a week for a month and he’ll be home free!
This last year for him has been filled with so much pain and he’s aged more than I could have ever believed. When he came out of recovery yesterday and into his room, he already looked 5 years younger! This year, he turns 80 and he’s never looked his age. I’m daddy’s little girl and this has been hard on me, as well as everyone else in the family. He told my mom she’s worked up quite an account of “brownie points” and she’s looking forward to when she can redeem them! They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Dec 18 and they’re looking forward to many more years together.
I’ve been knitting on my niece’s 2nd mitt and also working on my Natural Treasure challenge. I’m knitting the Simple Garter Stitch shawl (Ravelry link), sans fringe. I’m just not a fringe girl. Tomorrow I take Bella and Jenny to the vet - it’s time for Bella’s yearly shots and Jenny will meet her new vet. we will be scheduling surgery for her to get her “girly bits” taken out. Don’t need any accidents around here, nope! When I get home, I’ll take some photos of the yarn I’m spinning, the yarn I’ve spun and the progress on my knitting.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts for Daddy - they made a difference and my mom was touched when I told her of the support for him.
2009 will be a good year!

Tomorrow, my Dad is having his left hip replaced. Supposed to go much smoother than his right one did, 3 years ago. I have two knitting projects so I will be all set for keeping my Mom and Sis company.
If you have a second, please send positive thoughts his way! Thank you!

Hi there:
Bella and Jenny here. We’ve had a pretty wild and rowdy couple of days. We’ve done a lot of running and wrestling - we’re good friends now. Barking and running and chewing on bones and treats. Here we are: Bella in repose.

And Jenny laying next to Mom (she thinks she’s part cat).

And here’s a pic dad took of Jenny chewing on a rawhide roll that’s almost as big as she is.

Please note the perfectly sharp paw image as opposed to the frenzied chewing blur that is her face!
That’s all for now. Mom promises a post with all her Christmas goodies soon. She’s just so tired today!

I finished the gift for my Dad (pic later) and fnished one mitt for my niece. That means she will get the “knitter’s christmas gift.” One mitt wrapped up with the yarn for the other. Since I will see her dad (my baby brother) on New Year’s Eve day, I feel pretty confident that I can have them ready to send home with him.
Why will I see him during the day you ask? Well, my dad is having his other hip replaced on New Year’s Eve at noon. Then they plan on sending him home two days later and he’ll have a physical therapist come see him every day. Now, this is a scary proposition folks. Last hip, it wasn’t a pretty thing and he was in there for two weeks. WTF? I have a feeling there will be a lot of time spent at my parents house over the next few weeks making sure Mom’s not overwhelmed. I just hope this will end the pain he has been living with for the last two years.
This is a bit of a downer - how about a pic of the mitt?

Not too shabby, eh? I really love how cool this looks and fair isle can be fun!
Merry Christmas to all of you, stay warm to my homies in the north, and peace to you all.

About me:
1. I’m claustrophobic
2. I’m a control freak
3. I have a lazy “A” type personality. Which means I’ll sit there and fret about what I should be doing instead of doing it.
4. I have two beautiful sons who make me very proud.
5. I am married to my best friend and I still think he’s hawt!
6. My parents have been married for 55 years and are the best role models I could have ever hoped for.
7. I’ve decided that going through menopause is the biggest pile of s*** that could have happened in a while.
I’m not going to tag anyone, but if you read this and feel inclined to play, drop me a note in my comments so I can go check it out!
Why didn’t anyone tell me?

I’m working on the Winter Twilight Mitts from IK for a certain niece whose name #1 drew. Why didn’t anyone tell me how addictive Fair Isle can be? Hmmm? Once I figured out the holding of the yarns, it got much smoother. Still a little slow, but I’m hoping my speed will pick up. Practice makes perfect, right?
Here’s an in-progress shot:

If I can get these done by the end of next week (there’s a couple of parties in there and of course, more housecleaning), then I’m on track to get the things I HAD to have done by Christmas! Woot!
Happy Friday y’all!
You gotta meet the baby!*

Meet the baby:

She’s 7 months old, fully housebroken and sleeps through the night. The hard work is done. Her name is Jenny, but that may change.
*If you can name the show that line came from, you win a prize! (I have to go home and find a prize - will be either yarn or maybe some yummy spinning batts or roving.) First person to leave a comment with the correct answer wins! Woot!
Fin! Finito! Done!

Here it is in all it’s glory - the Noro Striped Scarf. Seriously entertaining and wonderfully smooshy. I’m doing at LEAST two more sometime!

This is Orly. She is a two year old lab/terrier (mostly terrier) mix. She is sweet and very lively. Which is why her owners need to find her a good home. They have 11 mo twins and Orly is a bit high energy for the house. If anyone is interested or knows someone who could give her a good home, can you help a sweetie out?

Oh yeah and I finished the Noro Scarf!
Weak but effective?

I got nothing. Work is busy (good) and the house needs some serious tending to. But, I am getting the scarf done. I love this scarf - in serious, deep, schmidt here.

Going to score more, for shore! Heh.
